Kendal Celebrated Canada Day

July 1st 2003

When mother was a child growing up in Kendal during the early nineteen hundreds, the community was close-knit and active. All occasions were attended by young and old alike and people either walked or came by horse and buggy to socialize and be part of the celebrations. Still evident even now, is that same wonderful community sprit which is very much alive and active in Kendal today.

On July 1st, during the evening, the Community Centre ground in Kendal was the place to be. People walked or came by car to socialize and get ready for the fireworks display-about 250 to 300 people in all from toddlers to seniors. They set up lawn chairs and enjoyed the perfect evening.

Hosted by Community Centre Board, those in attendance were entertained by a group of local musicians from eight o’clock to dark. Pop and hotdogs, chips and candy were available to purchase. Tickets were sold for a 50/50 draw which was won by Phyllis Lowery

As darkness fell, Mandy Dolley sang Oh Canada before the fireworks commenced. It was a spectacular show with plenty of oohs and aahs and round of applause.

The community Centre Board is to be commended for the organization of this event and the community-at-large for their voluntary contributions making this possible. Very special thanks go to Regional Councillor Charlie Trim and Councillor Gord Robinson for their help and support.

Yes, community sprit is still very much alive in Kendal!
